Gupta and SunSoft Announce SQLWindows for Solaris

Product Provides Scalability, Portability and Ease-of-Use for Enterprise-Wide Application Development and Deployment

UNIX EXPO, New York City-September 19, 1995 -- In a move to bring powerful cross-platform custom application development and deployment capabilities to the UNIX community, Gupta Corporation and SunSoft, Inc. today announced SQLWindows for Solaris. With SQLWindows for Solaris, UNIX developers now have the ability to rapidly build and deploy large-scale networked applications with the leading development and deployment software, Gupta SQLWindows, on the leading enterprise RDBMS development and deployment platform, SunSoft's Solaris.

SQLWindows for Solaris enables developers to build powerful object-oriented applications that can be developed on and are scalable from Microsoft Windows desktops to the Solaris x86/Pentium and SPARC environments. Applications can be developed on one platform and deployed on another, giving users the ability to quickly build and deploy applications across heterogeneous networks comprised of both Windows and Solaris systems.

"Our corporate customers are demanding more and more scalability, and are asking for the ability to develop and deploy client/server applications on Solaris," said Matt Miller, vice president of product management and planning of Gupta Corporation. "We are pleased to partner with SunSoft to deliver this open tool for building powerful applications for the enterprise. SQLWindows provides a single, scalable solution to help companies gain a competitive edge.

"We are pleased about our partnership with Gupta. SunSoft is already the number one RDBMS platform and Gupta's SQLWindows on Solaris gives our customers a powerful 4GL, front-end tool to quickly build and deploy customized, mission-critical applications," said David Spenhoff, SunSoft's director of product marketing for Solaris. "This is great news for customers who have selected Solaris because Solaris is the most powerful 32-bit operating environment, providing built-in networking, scalability and support for multiple architectures including Intel, SPARC and PowerPC."

SQLWindows for Solaris' cross-platform development capabilities give corporate users unparalleled flexibility in building applications for the total enterprise, letting developers deliver multi-platform, multidatabase applications that maintain a small footprint and retain the ease-of-use customers have grown to expect. With the addition of SQLWindows for Solaris, Gupta and SunSoft provide a total solution for corporations that demand power and scalability for developing and deploying their mission-critical business applications.

Pricing and Availability

SQLWindows for Solaris will be available in November of 1995 for both SPARC and x86 platforms in one package. The product will be priced at $3,495 and will be available through Gupta's distribution channels. Developers should contact their VARs or integrators for further pricing information.
